Privacy Policy

SmartTranscript is a software product. We collect only what's needed to run the extension, prevent abuse of free usage limits, and process the videos or pages you ask us to analyze — we do not sell your data.
1. Who this applies to
This policy covers the SmartTranscript browser extension, smarttranscript.app, and its subpages (including the standalone subtitle-conversion tools). The subtitle/caption format converters run entirely in your browser and do not send your files anywhere — everything below the converters applies to the AI-powered features of the extension (summaries, translation, Ask AI, semantic search, web page analysis).
2. Data We Collect

3. Who We Share Data With
We use a small number of third-party providers to run SmartTranscript. We do not sell your data to anyone, including these providers, beyond what's needed for them to perform their service to us.

4. Data Retention
We keep your saved analysis history for as long as your account is active, up to the record limit of your plan (shown in the extension). You can delete individual history entries or your saved moments at any time from within the extension. If you delete your account, we delete your stored history and personal account data within a reasonable time, except where we're required to keep records for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes.
5. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly inside the extension (viewing and deleting your history), or by emailing us at admin@smarttranscript.app for anything else, including full account deletion.
6. Cookies and Local Storage
The extension uses Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local) to remember your settings and cache results on your own device — this is not a third-party tracking cookie and is not shared with advertisers. smarttranscript.app uses local storage for basic preferences like your chosen interface language.
7. Children's Privacy
SmartTranscript is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Data Security
We use industry-standard measures (encrypted connections, hashed device fingerprints, access-controlled databases) to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International Data Transfers
Our service providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on those providers' own data-transfer safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses).
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
