Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By installing the SmartTranscript browser extension, using smarttranscript.app or any of its subpages, or otherwise using our tools, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use SmartTranscript.

2. What SmartTranscript Does

SmartTranscript is a software product — a browser extension and a set of standalone web tools — that:

• Reads the transcript/caption text a YouTube video already displays to the viewer and generates an AI summary, key points, and chapters from it;
• Translates that summary into the language you choose;
• Lets you ask questions about a video's content based on its transcript;
• Converts subtitle files between common formats (SRT, VTT, ASS, TXT, LRC) entirely in your browser;
• Optionally summarizes a web page's text content, in the same way, for the page you are currently viewing;
• Stores a history of your own analyses so you can search and revisit them later, if you choose to save them.

What SmartTranscript does NOT do

• We do not perform marketing, promotion, advertising, or consulting services on your behalf.
• We do not take any automated action on your behalf outside of generating the requested text output — every click, download, and share is initiated by you.
• We do not download, host, or redistribute the video or audio of any YouTube video. We only read and summarize the caption text already shown to the viewing user for their own single-video use.
• We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube, Google LLC, or any video platform referenced in our tools.

3. Eligibility and Accounts

You must be able to form a legally binding contract to use SmartTranscript. Paid features require signing in with a Google account; we do not offer sign-up via other identity providers or plain email/password at this time.

4. Subscription Plans, Billing, and Cancellation

SmartTranscript offers a free tier and one or more paid subscription tiers. Current features and limits for each tier are shown inside the extension and on our pricing page, and may change from time to time as described in Section 5 below.

• Paid subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly, unless stated otherwise at checkout) by our third-party payment processor, who acts as the merchant of record for your purchase and handles payment collection, tax, and invoicing.
• Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time; your paid access continues until the end of the period you already paid for.
• Refunds are handled according to our payment processor's refund policy, which will be linked from the checkout page and our pricing page once payments are enabled.

5. Pricing Changes and Grandfathering

If we change the price of a plan in the future:

• The new price applies only to new subscribers who sign up after the change takes effect.
• Existing subscribers keep their existing price and terms for as long as their subscription remains active without a gap.
• Temporary promotions or time-limited discounts are not considered a base price change and do not entitle any subscriber to a recalculation.

6. Fair Use and Usage Limits

Every plan, including paid plans, has usage limits for AI-powered features. We do not use the word "unlimited" for any feature that has a practical limit — where a feature is capped, the exact number is shown in the extension's balance display, updated as you use it. Limits exist to prevent abuse and keep the service sustainable; the vast majority of users never come close to them in normal use.

We reserve the right to suspend or rate-limit accounts that we reasonably believe are being used to abuse free-tier limits (for example: creating multiple accounts from the same device to bypass a limit, or automating requests outside of normal human use of the extension).

7. Referral Program

Where offered, our referral program grants bonus usage to both the referrer and the referred user when a valid, unused referral code is applied. Referral codes are tied to individual accounts, are not transferable for payment, and each code may only be redeemed once per new account. We may disable a referral code or reverse bonus credits obtained through fraudulent use (for example, self-referral using multiple accounts on the same device).

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use SmartTranscript to violate any third party's rights, including copyright, in the content you process;
• Attempt to circumvent usage limits, fingerprinting, or rate-limiting through technical means beyond normal use of the extension;
• Resell, sublicense, or provide access to your SmartTranscript account or its outputs as a bulk/automated service to third parties;
• Use SmartTranscript to build a competing product by systematically extracting our own outputs at scale.

9. Content You Submit and Content We Generate

You are responsible for the videos, pages, and files you choose to analyze. Summaries, transcripts, translations, and other outputs generated for you are yours to use for your own personal or professional purposes; we do not claim ownership over them. We do not review or moderate video content before you analyze it, and AI-generated summaries may occasionally be incomplete or inaccurate — always verify anything important against the original source.

10. Third-Party Services

SmartTranscript relies on third-party infrastructure to operate, including (as applicable) Google (for sign-in), an AI provider (for generating summaries and answering questions), a database/hosting provider, and a payment processor for paid plans. Your use of SmartTranscript is also subject to those providers' own terms where relevant to the feature you're using. See our Privacy Policy for details on what data is shared with each.

11. Disclaimers

SmartTranscript is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. AI-generated content (summaries, answers, translations) may contain errors or omissions and should not be relied on as the sole source for any decision. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation of the extension or website.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SmartTranscript and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the product. Our total liability for any claim relating to SmartTranscript is limited to the amount you paid us, if any, in the 3 months preceding the claim.

13. Termination

You may stop using SmartTranscript and uninstall the extension at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, including the Acceptable Use section above.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of SmartTranscript after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
